The Napthens Foundation
The Napthens Foundation
The Napthens Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation set up by Napthens in 2021, to raise money and support good causes across the north west, with a particular focus on ones close to the heart of Napthens, its colleagues and clients.
The Foundation aims to raise £15,000 every year, with the firm supporting fundraising activity through donations, events, fundraising and other initiatives.
Support has already been given to those in need by reason of education, youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantages.
The Foundation’s committee, which will be reviewed on an annual basis, is made up from a mix of colleagues from across Napthens’ regional offices, including HR and Operations Director, Nicola Mason.
Clare Lennon from the Charities Trust is also part of the committee, as Napthens has partnered with Charities Trust to administer the Foundation.
Our registered charity number is 327489, as Napthens has partnered with Charities Trust to administer the foundation.

Our fundraising activities
The Napthens Foundation is fortunate to have many colleagues who have provided support through fundraising activities.
In turn we’ve been able to help various charitable organisations with vital funds and resources through those events.
The Stroke Association and Blackburn Rovers Community Trust (BRCT) both received more than £3,000 after Oli McCann plunged into the waters of England’s biggest lake and swam 10km.
BRCT are using the money specifically to help Apple Trees in Blackburn, an organisation the Community Trust works with closely with, to deliver targeted multi-sports activities for children with disabilities.
The Stroke Association will use the money to further research and support those who have suffered a stroke.
We’ve also worked with an organisation which helps primary school children with their mental health, by supporting programmes at schools across the north west.
The MyHappyMinds programmes deepen children’s understanding of their own mental health and of others, looking to reduce anxiety.
Through financial support of almost £12,000, the programmes have helped around 1,500 children from schools in Preston, Blackpool, Blackburn and Chorley learn to be more empathetic to each other.
By supporting children’s wellbeing, MyMappyMinds looks to reduce the number of young people who are treated by the NHS for mental health issues.
This in turn helps reduce the cost to NHS Trusts, and the burden faced by children as they enter adulthood.
When Andrew Coney, a partner at P Wilson and Company, a longstanding client of Napthens, was looking to raise awareness and £20,000 for the brilliant charity, PSPA, we supported him.
PSPA supports people, and their families, who are suffering from the rare and incurable degenerative brain disorder PSP, which Andrew’s wife of 35 years, Lindsay, has sadly been diagnosed.
Colleagues from our Blackburn office joined Andrew and others to walk The Two Roses Way, a six-day 100-mile walk spanning across the countryside of Lancashire and the Yorkshire.
In total, Andrew raised more than £45,000 for the charity.
More than 20 of our colleagues took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, raising more than £1,000 for The Foxton Centre, to support the most vulnerable people in our society.
The Foxton Centre has been supporting our local community since 1969, offering support to rough sleepers, street sex workers, young people dealing with difficult situations, those in poverty, those dealing with addiction, and those suffering with mental health problems.
Funds from our charity walk helped The Foxton Centre with some of its amazing initiatives, including the Homeless Day Centre, Assertive Outreach, The Rough Sleepers Initiative, Housing First, Streetlink, Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM), Fox Kidz, ATR and Smiths Rec.
Testimonials
Vikki Pattinson, from the Stroke Association:
“We’re always grateful to people like Oli who put themselves out to support others.
“The money he’s raised will help us continue pioneering research to save lives and help stroke survivors to make the best possible recovery and adjust to life after stroke.
“It will also deliver specialist support services and a helpline to ensure stroke survivors and their loved ones get the support they need.”
Gary Robinson, CEO of the official charity of Blackburn Rovers Football Club:
“First of all, we would like to thank Oli for his outstanding effort by completing a marathon swim in Lake Windermere.
“Oli’s fundraising will help support the important work we do within our local community and has helped with our delivery in Apple Trees, Blackburn, a centre which provides short breaks for children up to the age of 18 with disabilities.
“It will help us continue to support the fantastic work that Apples Trees and their people do on a daily basis.
“Our qualified coaches deliver engaging multi-sports sessions focused on the specific needs of the children.
“In addition, our Men in Sheds participants also visit Apples Trees and they help tend to the gardens in order for the children to enjoy the great facilities Apple Trees have at their disposal.
“We are thankful Oli has shown his support for Blackburn Rovers Community Trust.”
Jo Margerison (governor) Fulwood & Cadley Primary School:
“The MyHappyMinds project has started to make a real difference in empowering the children and deepening their understanding of mental health.
“The children have become more empathetic of one another which is wonderful to see.”
Mr B Corlett, Class 10 Teacher at Fulwood & Cadley Primary School:
“I would like to say a massive thank you to Napthens Solicitors for their generosity in helping us to fund MyHappyMinds.
“The scheme has been tremendous in supporting the children’s mental health but we look forward to embedding MyHappyMinds even further into our school ethos.
“The children are more considerate and mindful of one another as they understand more about how the brain works.
“In addition, they understand more about themselves as the MyHappyMind equips them with the necessary tools.”
Volunteering
The Napthens Foundation isn’t just about money, it’s about supporting people to make a positive difference in our local communities, through donations of time and money, or even expertise and resources.
Napthens Group colleagues are provided with one volunteering day a year, to give to a local charity, as part of the Napthens Foundation pledge.
Our colleagues can either submit a volunteering request or support an organisation that has requested help through time from people.
If your organisation or charity has opportunities that we can get involved with through a donation of time, please email Napthens.CharityFoundation@napthens.co.uk.
What’s next
The Napthens Foundation will continue to raise funds through donations, fundraising, employee events, and employee time and resource, to be able to support as many applications and local charity projects as we can.
To optimise the impact the Foundation can have across the north west, we’re always open to ideas and suggestions from the community, businesses, clients and other organisations.
For any events we can get involved with, please contact us at Napthens.CharityFoundation@napthens.co.uk.
