Nicola is HR and Operations Director for Napthens, heading up the human resources and operations teams based in Preston. She works in partnership with the firm’s partners and senior management to help support the growth and direction of the firm through development and implementation of a strategic People plan. Nicola also provides strategic HR support to a number of the firm’s clients requiring practical, hands-on HR expertise within their business, through Napthens’ HR3 service.
Combining her experience working with other businesses, and her expertise gained in a variety of industries, Nicola is focused on developing a HR strategy that will help Napthens to achieve our vision of being “The best law firm in the North West”.
Nicola has particular expertise in strategic HR, TUPE, change management, employee relations, benefits, employee engagement and communications. She has worked in a variety of industries in her career, with experience in aerospace, BPO, oil and gas and recruitment.
Nicola joined Napthens in May 2015 as HR Consultant with the HR3 People team. Her career started in the car industry, before she moved to a recruitment agency in East Lancashire. Nicola moved to in-house recruitment for a BPO, providing end to end recruitment solutions for their blue-chip, aerospace customer, before moving into a role providing the same service but to the business itself across the UK. Following this, Nicola moved to a start up, matrix business, with a complex European TUPE transfer project; and then onto a major project, developing brand new benefit offerings for a business across 20 countries in Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe and Latin America.
Nicola studied for her CIPD at UCLAN, graduating in 2012. Prior to this she studied for adult teacher training City and Guilds (7307/7407), CertRP (Certificate in Recruitment Practice issued by REC) through distance learning, and BA (Hons) degree in Sociology at Leeds Metropolitan University.er.

What is your proudest achievement?
Achieving IiP Gold Standard in a previous business, due to the work of the HR team working with other parts of the business, in a period of decline.
What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
Matching HR service to the business environment and its requirements. Being able to provide a service to my clients (internally or externally) that is genuinely needed and appreciated, and where I feel I add value. I love it when managers and employees come back to me with positive feedback that shows the service I provide demonstrates value to the individuals and the business concerned.
