Training Contracts With Napthens

We are excited to hear from you if you are ready to kickstart your legal career and commence your path to becoming a Solicitor and want to work for an ambitious Legal 500 law firm!

With offices across the North West, you will have the opportunity to work from any of our offices during your contract (where reasonably practicable you would at least experience two offices).  You will carry out 6 months seats, usually between 4 different departments, based from either Preston, Blackburn, Liverpool and Southport.   Our successes are built on our people and your training contract is the beginning of your journey with us.  Our people are important to us, and during your training contract you will become a member of a tight knit community and will be supported by other trainee solicitors and NQ’s in the firm as part of our Junior Lawyers club to aid your personal and professional development.

Our training contracts are predominantly within our commercial departments and cover the following:- Corporate, Employment, Litigation, Commercial Property and Family.  As a supportive employer, we work with our trainees to ensure that they experience the departments of choice to compliment their career goals.  You will gain invaluable hands on experience in each of your seats, to include exposure on a variety cases, client contact, learning from diverse and experienced lawyers with bespoke specialisms, and a great benefits package.

Each year we review all applications after the submission deadline each year. At that time we assess our recruitment needs and compile a shortlist of potential candidates based on:

  • Minimum 2:1 degree in an academic subject
  • Excellent client care skills
  • Clear ability to work within a team structure
  • Commercial awareness within legal practice
  • Ability to communicate across all levels of the business
  • Competency with IT facilities
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Previous experience in a legal environment is preferred but not essential

If you wish to, apply HERE by uploading your CV and covering letter.  In your application please outline the following:

  • Grades at A-Level
  • Grades at degree level
  • LPC results – if completed
  • Electives chosen during LPC
  • Why Napthens?

Even where these criteria are matched, additional qualities can often be applied by the requirements of business. After matching the criteria, short-listed applicants will be invited for a formal interview and assessments with the Training Principal and Director of Human Resources.

Whilst as a firm we appreciate that training contracts can be reduced through the Law Society’s ‘Time to Count’ scheme, it is Napthens’ policy that unless there are exceptional circumstances, all Trainees will undertake a two year training contract.

We look forward to reviewing your application in due course!

Applications for 2025 will be open soon!  Watch this space.
