Training warning for door supervisors

Napthens - September 6th 2012

As many of you will already be aware, in June 2010 it became mandatory for door supervisors to undertake training which included awareness of terrorists' threats, physical intervention training and how to deal specifically with the 14 to 18 age group. Since then, SIA training has included these requirements, but the SIA Badged Supervisors who were qualified before June 2010 were able to operate without it.

The introduction of this new award sparked numerous discussions about how the door supervisors who were already qualified would undertake this training and who would pay for it.

Whilst the issue of cost has still not been addressed, it has now been announced that from 4th February 2013, those door staff qualified before June 2010 will need to show proof of being trained in physical intervention. An "Up Skilling Door Supervisors" award has been created which provides the additional training for those qualified before 2010 without having them needing to undertake full retraining.

SIA Director Dianne Tranmer said: 'I encourage door supervisors who have the older qualification to consider taking the new award as soon as they are able'.
This should serve as a timely reminder for all door supervisor to ensure their training is up to date in time for renewal in February 2013
