FOBT potential stake reduction

Napthens - March 21st 2018

Back in 2017 the Government launched a consultation to review, amongst other points, the maximum stake permitted on Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBT) and that consultation closed in January 2018.

The Gambling Commission have now provided their response to the consultation and recommended a reduction in the maximum stake from £100 to £30 or below for FOBT (B2) and £2 for B2 slots.  As well as these reductions the Gambling Commission have also suggested a “comprehensive package of other measures to protect customers”.

The Gambling Commission’s advice does not necessarily have to be followed by the Government, so we must now wait for the Government to decide whether or not to act upon the recommendations.

We will keep you informed of further progress but if you would like any information or advice in the meantime, then please do not hesitate to contact a member of the licensing team.
