Community and Ancillary Seller's Notices

Napthens - December 1st 2014

The Government are proposing to introduce Community and Ancillary Seller’s Notices (CAN) in order to reduce the unnecessary burdens on certain businesses and community groups. A consultation has been launched and interested parties are asked to respond by 9 December 2014.

A CAN is designed to benefit small businesses and community groups who wish to sell small amounts of alcohol in limited circumstances as an ancillary part of a wider service. For example, bed and breakfasts and other small accommodation businesses and community groups such as charities and non-profit organisations.

Whilst the final details will be set out in the regulations, it has been proposed that a CAN will last for  three years and be effective between the hours of 7.00am and 11.00pm.

Interested parties are asked to view the consultation and comment on what size of business/community group should be allowed to use CANs and also how much alcohol should be sold/supplied.
