HSE Introduction to working safely

Corporate Manslaughter

The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 was a landmark in law. Organisations can be found guilty of corporate manslaughter as a result of serious management failures resulting in a gross breach of a duty of care.

Hazardous substances are used in many workplaces and may lead to a wide range of conditions including dermatitis, asthma, and disease. Around 10,000 people die each year from work-related ill health and many of these deaths are due to exposure to substances hazardous to health.

Under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Heath Regulations employers must prevent or control exposure, assess the risks to the workforce and others, maintain controls and monitor workplaces and individuals, they must also provide information instruction and training to anyone that may be exposed.

Legionella

Legionnaires’ Disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia which can affect anybody, but which principally affects those who are susceptible because of age, illness, immunosuppression, smoking etc.

On average there are approximately 200 to 250 reported cases of Legionnaires’ disease each year in the UK, although many believe this total is generally underestimated. The disease is caused by the ‘Legionella pneumophilia’ bacteria and is an extremely serious form of Legionellosis, causing high fever and proving fatal in approximately 12% of cases.

In an attempt to help reduce such numbers, this module has been developed in association with one of our partners Houseman Environmental Services, UK leaders in Water Treatment . It has been designed to help raise awareness of Legionnaires’ disease by explaining how outbreaks might occur, and highlighting water systems that have a potentially high risk of developing the Legionnella bacterium.

Food hygiene

A fully interactive training course aimed at any person who comes into contact with food! From basic food handling, food preparation, to food service. Training is set by the trainee at a pace to suit, there are multiple pre-test questions throughout, with interactive missions to test your progress. The course is both engaging and educational, and should take between 45 to 60 mins to complete, it meets UK standards for food hygiene and safety.

This is an ideal course for Induction or Refresher training and suitable for anyone who works or comes into contact with FOOD regardless of their working environment. On successful completion, a certificate is awarded along with 1 Hour of CPD credit

This course has been specially commissioned to support the new EU General Data Protection Regulations. GDPR is the new regulations that governs anyone handling personal data. All businesses that handle personal data must ensure that their staff are aware of these new rules and must examine the processes they currently have in place to ensure compliance. This concise and effective training programme will help you to recognise the early warning signs, so that something can be done before it’s too late and damage becomes permanent.

This one section looks at how working with vibrating tools can affect your health. We explore the term Hand-arm Vibration Syndrome and explain exactly how each stages of this illness progresses and the dangers.
