Based in our Kendal office, Katherine is a Senior Associate Solicitor with our litigation and dispute management team. Katherine advises on dispute avoidance and resolution and assists her clients on pursuing and defending disputes through the Courts and using various forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), in particular, arbitration, adjudication and mediation. She also advises clients in the construction and engineering sector on non-contentious documentation ranging from advice on procurement methods and contract terms through to drafting and negotiating construction contracts and associated documents.

A highly experienced dispute management lawyer, Katherine specialises in construction and engineering matters, large contractual disputes and professional negligence claims. Skilled in resolving disputes both in the High Court (Technology & Construction Court) and in using most forms of ADR, Katherine is also an experienced commercial lawyer, with expertise in drafting and negotiating both bespoke and industry standard forms of construction and engineering contracts including JCT, NEC, IChemE and FIDIC contracts.
Katherine joined Napthens in 2018 from an in-house role with Capita Business Services Ltd with responsibility for handling disputes in the strategic services division. Prior to this Katherine was with the Lancaster office of Baines Wilson for over 3 years where she was partner in the litigation team and head of construction and engineering. Katherine trained with DLA Piper in Leeds, qualifying in 2001 and remaining with them in Leeds and then Sheffield, latterly as an associate in the construction and engineering department, until she relocated back to the Lake District in 2014.
Katherine is fluent in German (degree level).

How do you like to relax out of work?
When not watching films about dogs with my children, I relax by exercising. I love to be outside running, walking or cycling. I also swim regularly and do yoga.

Working for MI5 as a spy!
What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
Helping people resolve their problems, be it a big business or an individual.
