Emma is a Senior Associate Solicitor in the Employment team. She provides straightforward, honest and practical advice to business owners, directors, managers and HR professionals on a variety of employment law issues. Her work ranges from advising on internal staffing issues, such as recruitment and sickness absence management, to providing advice and representation in Employment Tribunal proceedings.
Emma is experienced in dealing with TUPE transfers, disciplinary and grievance matters, capability procedures, restructures and redundancy processes. She regularly provides advice regarding severance packages and settlement agreements for staff at all levels. Emma also drafts bespoke contracts of employment, policies and procedures and presents workshops and training sessions covering a full range of employment law topics.
Having spent time as an in-house lawyer, Emma understands how businesses work ‘on the inside’ and adopts a commercially-focused, outcome-driven approach to providing advice.
Emma has particular experience in the IT, Telecoms and Engineering sectors but acts for clients across all industries.
Emma is adept at dealing with TUPE matters – specifically, drafting and negotiating TUPE provisions in outsourcing contracts. She also has significant experience in dealing with unfair dismissal, discrimination, harassment and victimisation cases in the Employment Tribunal.
Emma has supported a number of large employers in complying with their gender pay gap reporting obligations.
Emma first joined Napthens in 2014, after training at Lancashire-based firm Forbes Solicitors and qualifying as a solicitor in 2010. She then spent almost three years as the sole in-house Employment Counsel for the Daisy Group, where she worked closely with the HR team, Legal team and Directors and gained particular experience in dealing with TUPE-related matters, before returning to Napthens at the end of 2018.
Emma completed her law degree at the University of Sheffield and her LPC at Lancashire Law School.
