Emma is a legal director in the employment and HR team.

She provides straightforward, honest and practical advice to business owners, directors, managers and HR professionals on a variety of employment law issues, including employment corporate support.

Emma is experienced in dealing with disciplinary and grievance matters, discrimination issues, absence management, performance management, restructures and redundancy processes.

She regularly provides advice regarding severance packages and settlement agreements for staff at all levels.

Emma also drafts bespoke contracts of employment, policies and procedures and provides in-house training on a full range of employment law topics.

Experience

Having worked as an in-house lawyer, Emma understands how businesses work ‘on the inside’ and adopts a commercially focused, outcome-driven approach to providing advice.

 

Emma has particular experience in the IT, telecoms and engineering sectors but acts for clients across all industries. She is adept in dealing with the employment-related aspects of business acquisitions and disposals and in drafting and negotiating TUPE provisions in outsourcing contracts.

 

Emma has supported a number of large employers in complying with their gender pay gap reporting obligations.

 

Emma first joined Napthens in 2014, after training at Lancashire-based firm Forbes Solicitors and qualifying as a solicitor in 2010. She then spent almost three years as the sole in-house employment counsel for the Daisy Group, where she worked closely with the HR and legal teams, and directors, and gained particular experience in dealing with TUPE-related matters, before returning to Napthens at the end of 2018.
