Angela is a legal director in our employment & HR team based in our Kendal office. Angela advises businesses on all aspects of employment law, as well as specialising in business immigration and industrial relations. She handles a caseload of Employment Tribunal claims, covering issues such as unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistleblowing. Angela also advises on non-contentious employment issues, including drafting contracts of employment and service agreements, reviewing company policies, advising on the employment aspects of commercial transactions and dealing with day-to-day HR queries.
Angela regularly designs and delivers both bespoke and centrally-organised client briefings and training programmes and often speaks at public training courses.
In addition to her employment law experience, Angela is a business immigration specialist. In this role Angela advises on the prevention of illegal working and carrying out right to work checks; obtaining permission for applicants to live and work in the UK; assisting employers in applying for sponsor licences and advising on employer obligations as registered sponsors; and making representations to prevent the revocation or downgrading of sponsor licences.
Angela has significant experience advising on trade union/industrial relations issues. Before joining Napthens Angela spent over a year advising Royal Mail on the trade union issues arising from its privatisation. In 2012, she also worked as part of the team advising several London bus companies on the Olympic Bonus Strikes.
Angela is also experienced in advising education institutions, particularly schools and academies across Cumbria, on all aspects of employment law/HR.
Angela joined Napthens in 2019. Prior to this, she was an employment solicitor for Cumbria County Council. In this role, she managed all of the Council’s Employment Tribunal claims, liaised and negotiated with trade union representatives, provided training and advice to the Council, Fire Service and 250+ schools, updated policies and procedures and advised on GDPR. Angela trained and worked with Eversheds Sutherland in Leeds for 7 years. During this time, she carried out a full range of employment, immigration and trade union work. She also completed secondments with Asda’s in-house Legal Team and Royal Mail.

I love spending time with my family in the great outdoors (walking, biking and, more recently, paddle boarding)
What is your proudest achievement?
It’s not necessarily my ‘proudest achievement’ but I once played in the women’s FA Cup (much to my husband’s annoyance, as he’s a much better footballer than me)
What 3 items would you take with you on a desert island?
A helicopter, pilot and a sat nav (I enjoy a holiday but I’m always keen to return home)
What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
Helping my clients to achieve their goals
