With Social Mobility Day taking place on Thursday 12th June, Napthens rolled out activity across the week through our social mobility programme, Opening Doors.
Last week we enjoyed a fantastic series of events and activities to raise awareness and deepen the understanding of social mobility in the legal profession.
Our colleagues Claire Duncan, Tony Coates, Richard Knowles, Luke Fisher, Emma Odudu-Harrison shared their own inspirational social mobility stories.
We also worked with young people at Cardinal Newman College Preston and Lancaster University to get their insights into what social mobility means for them and how they view the workplace of the future.
At Napthens, we are committed to making sure that a person’s background does not determine their future, and this focus is being led by our Head of Learning and Development, Simon Price.
He helped coordinate the week of events and continues to create awareness, drive change and open up opportunities for everyone, no matter their background.
Of the week itself he said: “I have been blown away this week with the support from our people for such an important issue like social mobility and been so inspired working with the next generation of lawyers.
“So many wonderful people all working together to create a future that ensures that where you start from in life, does not determine your future.
“There is so much more still to do to make sure where you start from in life does not determine where you end and. I am so excited for what lies ahead.”
Social mobility is the link between a person’s occupation or income and the occupation or income of their parents and evidence suggests that where you start from in life can impact where you end up.
A key part of our approach to improving social mobility in the legal profession, is to work with young people and get their insights.
Simon and the team will continue to evolve our support for social mobility, and we’ll communicate these in due course.
