Napthens supports new brewing industry ‘consultancy with a difference’

A legal expert from regional law firm Napthens has assisted in the creation of a new brewing industry consultancy led by senior executives and experts from the beer and pub sector.

James Allison, head of Real Estate at Napthens solicitors, has helped to launch Brewindex alongside leading professionals including former SIBA chairman Keith Bott and SIBA’s first chief executive, Julian Grocock.

James and his team will advise the consultancy’s clients given their sector knowledge.

The ‘consultancy with a difference’ has brought a range of recognised experts together to offer strategic guidance, advice and support to new and established enterprises.

Working with in-house specialists, clients will have access to expertise in a range of areas including legal, financial, business development, brewing, plant design, corporate finance and marketing.

James and the Napthens team will bring to bear experience of acting for clients in the leisure, licensing and brewing trades, calling on his relationships with corporate finance advisers, banks and private equity houses.

Along with James, Keith Bott and Julian Grocock, the team of experts is made up of Ian Bearpark, formerly of Carlsberg-Tetley, BI Group and Daniel Thwaites; Phil Barnett whose career included more than 40 years with Marstons, and Andy Slee, who boasts a 30-year career at director level with Bass, Coca-Cola and Punch Taverns.

James Allison said: “Brewindex has been founded in the context of an increasingly complex, crowded and competitive market where it’s more important than ever to have access to good advice to help you achieve that all important point of difference.

“There are more breweries in the country now than for decades previously. Through my work in the North-West I’m only too aware of the commercial, economic and operational challenges facing businesses operating in the brewing sector.

“We believe a bespoke and fast-track approach to offering industry advice on a range of topics is a real differentiator, offering clients the chance to save time and money.

“In effect the individuals involved offer the support of non-executive directors for as long as a client needs it, and they are confident that, with our expertise and diverse backgrounds in the sector, we can offer solid and practical advice on a range of issues from employment law to plant installation.

“For a relatively small company this could make a real and lasting difference to a business.”
