Coronavirus: clarity needed on children of separated parents

Our Head of Family, Helen Lucking has received a number of enquiries about the new stricter rules on social distancing so we wanted to provide as much of an update as we can.

The Prime Minister was clear on the reasons people can leave their house, but there was confusion over what this means for children of separated families. Michael Gove has since appeared on TV and stated that children should not be moved from house to house.

However, he has since clarified that this is not the case for under-18s in separated families who can move from one parent’s house to another as per the conditions of the parents’ separation.

The Government has said it is urgently discussing this and is expected to issue further clear guidance imminently. We will update you as soon as this happens.
