Connecting North West business to relevant training, insight, conversation and each other

A world leader in the heart of Lancashire

Spiroflow in Clitheroe is a world leader that works with major global food companies that can be found on every shelf in every supermarket in the world.

The company was established in 1971 by company Chairman, Michel Podevyn who spotted a gap in the market for an innovative product that would help businesses in the food, drink and chemical industry.

The £18.5 million turnover business is now a global leader in the field of powder handling and dry solids processing providing its international clients with the safest, most efficient, innovative and most reliable process solutions available.

By pioneering the flexible screw conveyor, Spiroflow has grown significantly since those early days and now has an American operation in North Carolina.

As the business has grown so too have its products, service and reputation. Spiroflow’s conveying and weighing systems are in operation worldwide and are acclaimed for their outstanding versatility and prolonged working life in the most demanding environments.

James Podevyn, sales director said: “I can proudly say that there isn’t any particular sector that we are not involved with now – essentially any product that needs to be processed or moved from one point to another, then Spiroflow will have its fingerprint on that.

“Our clients range from major blue-chip food, chemical, paints and pharmaceutical companies and we are focused on making sure our clients have a production facility which ensures they are highly productive, efficient and of course, profitable.”

For a business that is a world leader in its field, Spiroflow is not one to rest on its laurels. Following on from winning Company of the Year and Newcomer of the Year for one of its engineers at the Solids Handling and Processing Association’s prestigious industry awards.

James added, “We’ve had a fantastic 2018 as one of our key objectives was to grow sales by 20 per cent. We finished the year by having a growth in sales of 42 per cent in the UK, so we’re absolutely delighted with that.

“This is going to be a very busy year. We have a new Industry 4.0 smart product launching in 2019 that will help predict when maintenance on production lines will need to be conducted, which will obviously have far  reaching benefits for all of our clients.

“In addition, we’re looking at our Clitheroe base as being a carbon neutral site and obtaining ISO 14001 which is an internationally recognised environmental standard.

“Finally we’re looking to invest more time in HR management systems. Napthens will help us with developing a comprehensive appraisal system to support employee welfare and training needs. It will help us with reducing
staff turnover which is already very low but I’m a great believer in constant improvement.

“I’m really pleased with the advice Napthens has given us on private and commercial matters and they’ve been great at supporting us grow as a business.”

So, the next time you have a cup of tea, savour your favourite tipple, tuck into a chocolate bar, take a vitamin or use a deodorant, remind yourself that a world leading business based in Lancashire has been fundamental in its production.
