Cumbria signals significant growth for firm in 2016

Napthens has unveiled its growth plans to expand its presence in Cumbria with the appointment of James Todhunter as its new Head of Cumbria complemented by the addition of a new Kendal office.

The fresh appointment and location signals growth plans for the firm as it begins to service increasing demand for its services in the county. James, who is Cumbrian born and bred, was relationship director with Lloyds Bank Commerical for eight years and joins Napthens to lead the expansion.

Speaking about his new role, James said: ‘Napthens is a business I have huge admiration and respect for with a first class legal offering and first class people throughout the organisation. Napthens is the go-to law firm in Lancashire and I want to replicate this in Cumbria.”

John Whittingslow, Chief Executive of Napthens, added: “James is a welcome addition to the team. He’s a well-respected and well-connected local man who shares the firm’s values in delivering class-leading advice for our clients. He’s passionate about the commercial development of Cumbria and this will translate in ensuring our clients will seize the opportunities available to them.”

The firm will now use its Penrith base to service the north of the county with Kendal providing the base for growth in the south.

James said: “Napthens already has a fantastic client base in Cumbria so the platform is strong to take the offering much further. Clients and the professional market alike have told us that there is a need in the region for a proactive, full service law firm so I will be very proud to be leading Napthens’ expansion and future success in the area.”

“My initial objective as Head of Cumbria will be to embed new members of the Cumbrian team into the Napthens culture, and build the connections with the existing business, which has a very strong legal team across all disciplines.

Our two strategic sites of Kendal and Penrith will allow us to take our offering to a wider geographic audience.“I also want Napthens to play a leading role in championing Cumbria as a place to do business and capture the benefits of the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ initiatives. There’s huge investment planned in Cumbria over the forthcoming years which will benefit the whole supply chain and the local communities – we want the firm to fulfil needs of Cumbrian businesses and families alike.”

The new office will be operational from January 2016 and there will be a number of new legal experts joining Napthens’ Kendal location early in the New Year.

John concluded: “Our presence in Cumbria over the past three years means we’ve been able to listen to and understand the needs of the market, and have provided tailored, specialist advice to local businesses, organisations and individuals.

“The region provides exciting growth opportunities for Napthens and we look forward to working with the business communities in the county and growing our presence in Cumbria.”
