Becoming a solicitor
Becoming a solicitor
There are more ways and opportunities than ever to pursue a career as a solicitor.
At Napthens we support applications to become a solicitor from three main pathways.
Qualifying with a law degree
If you have studied a law related course at university at undergraduate level, the next step with Napthens is to complete an SQE (solicitors qualifying examination) or LPC (legal practice course).
The SQE will soon replace the LPC as the recognised qualification in order to qualify as a solicitor.
Funding may be available to you in order to complete the SQE qualification, whilst working with us.
Qualifying with a non-law degree
If you have studied a non-law related course at university at undergraduate level, you will also need to complete an SQE in order to qualify as a solicitor.
At Napthens we assess all applications for this route to enable us to support every candidate to achieve their desired outcome.
The SQE can be achieved through a three-year apprenticeship at Napthens.
Solicitor apprenticeship
A university degree is not the only way to begin a career in the legal profession.
At Napthens, we have created an apprenticeship programme to encourage and support prospective solicitors, as we recognise that for some people university might not be for them.
Napthens’ solicitor apprenticeship provides an opportunity for people to pursue a career in the legal profession without the financial burden of university debts.
Our solicitors come from a variety of backgrounds, and we are excited to open up our opportunities to allow for dedicated people to join us, to begin or further their career in the legal profession.
The apprenticeship exposes people directly to very supportive partners and clients, providing all our apprentices with a full understanding of the life of a solicitor from day one.
A solicitor apprenticeship at Napthens is a five to six-year programme that is aimed at post A-level students. However, this study period is reduced if you progress from another legal apprenticeship.
With Napthens an apprenticeship covers all the content of a law degree, enabling apprentices to secure a law degree and an LLM (Masters).
Once your apprenticeship at Napthens is completed, apprentices will need to pass SQE exams before qualifying as a solicitor.
