Blackburn in the Community

Partners and staff in our Blackburn office were delighted to receive recognition for the firm’s investment in and commitment to East Lancashire when Napthens won the award for Corporate Commitment to Blackburn with Darwen at the HIVE Business Awards 2017.  This high profile ceremony took place in May at the prestigious King George’s Hall in Blackburn town centre.

The award was a real testament to the efforts of the team in East Lancashire in their support of local charities and involvement in the local business community.

Active in East Lancashire

Napthens is an active member of the Blackburn and Darwen HIVE Ambassadors Network and has sponsored the ‘Growing Business Award’ for a number of years.

A number of partners and staff have been involved in the Hive Business School and The Lancashire Enterprise Adviser Network. Working closely with the leadership team at St Wilfred’s CE Academy, Napthens has supported the development of a school strategy for enterprise and employer engagement, providing access to local business networks and has helped the school to focus on activities that support positive outcomes for young people.

One practical example of the team’s involvement was supporting the school in delivering an Employability Day in January 2017, when a number of our lawyers prepared and delivered a range of interactive workshops for 240 year 11 pupils over a full day.

Napthens has a high profile within the local business community and plays an active role, including regular attendance at the many East Lancashire business networking events.

Blackburn’s ‘Third Thursday Club’ is a networking group originally set up by partners Oliver McCann and Malcolm Ireland which has a new sponsor every month.  Malcolm describes the club as ‘a relaxed and informal monthly networking group for the East Lancs business community.’

The office is a Diamond Ambassador member of the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce and Blackburn team members regularly attend and support Chamber events and activities.

Support for East Lancashire charities

Every year staff in each of our offices nominates a charity that they wish to support locally.  For 2017/18 our Blackburn office has chosen the East Lancashire Hospice which provides many different services available to people with life-limiting illnesses.

Alongside fundraising efforts for the East Lancashire Hospice, the Blackburn office team will continue to support Blackburn Youth Zone, which has been the office nominated charity for a number of years, through events such as the annual Napthens Charity Clay Shoot.  Money raised for the Youth Zone by Napthens over the past few years has totaled over £20,000 through fundraising activities including:

In other area’s, individuals across the office get involved in support of the local community, including Office Head, Oliver McCann, who is a trustee and director for Training 2000, a charity supplying apprenticeships to local people across Blackburn and further afield.
