Summary
Oliver is an employment law partner based in our Blackburn office. He is highly experienced in employment law issues, with astute commercial awareness and a determination to achieve his clients’ objectives, making him a valuable business adviser.
Oliver acts primarily for businesses ranging from blue chip PLCs with 10,000+ staff to smaller owner-managed companies, in addition to charities and education establishments. He advises on HR and employment law issues including employment contracts, policies and procedures, disciplinaries and grievances, discrimination, bullying and harassment, unfair dismissal / wrongful dismissal and redundancy and restructuring.
He is also regularly requested by senior executives to advise in relation to their departure from their employer.
Specialisms
Oliver has particular experience in advising employers in retail, domiciliary care, security, education, manufacturing, marketing and the IT/software sector.
Advising on the full range of HR and employment law issues, Oliver’s expertise includes whistle-blowing, insolvency and TUPE matters, TUPE relating to business transfers and service provision changes, union disputes and independent contractors/self employed consultants/IR35
He is a regular, high profile speaker on employment matters throughout the North West including presentations at the ACAS Lancashire Employer Relations Forum, local CIPD events and a wide range of seminars including those held by local accountants and Universities.
Background
Oliver joined Napthens in January 2012 following 6 successful years at Taylors Solicitors where he was Partner and Head of Employment.
Oliver attended school and college in Blackburn before leaving the area briefly to study at the University of Leicester where he gained a 2:1 BA in Law and Economics. He then completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice part-time whilst gaining hands on experience working for another local law firm.
Qualifying in 2000, Oliver has 14 years experience in employment law. Initially having advised employees for 7 years (including cases publicised in the local and national press), Oliver successfully turned gamekeeper from poacher to use his experience to successfully safeguard the interests of his employer clients.

Oliver is a member of the Employment Lawyers’ Association.
He was a “Young ‘Un” in the 2009 Lancashire Business View feature, profiling the region's “hottest young business talent”, being described as "a leader in the field of employment law and a firm favourite within the legal profession".
The legal services industry directory Legal 500 states “Oliver is a name to note” in the employment law sector.
Oliver is Child Welfare Officer for Wilpshire Wanderers Football Club and Coach for the Under 12s Football Team.
