Alison Melling is an experienced solicitor in the Family Department at Napthens. Prior to qualifying as a solicitor in 1999 Alison was an Expert Court Witness in children matters and an experienced Guardian. Guardians are specialist social workers who investigate and represent children in cases where child abuse is alleged.
Alison originally went to university at Manchester University in 1968 and Birmingham University in 1973 where she read Economics and Social Psychology, followed by Diplomas in Social Administration and Social Work. On her return to university from 1995 to 1997 she attended Manchester Metropolitan to do the Diploma in Law and the Diploma in Legal Practice.
Alison comes from a farming family in the Fylde. She spent half of her professional life however in Birmingham before returning North in 1991.
Alison is great believer in the benefit of seeking professional advice with respect to relationship difficulties. She considers we live in rapidly changing social times and anyone contemplating setting up or leaving a relationship (marriage or cohabitation) could benefit from legal advice, especially if children are involved. Finding out where you stand reduces anxiety and increases confidence.
Alison advises in all family matters but is particularly interested in children cases.
Outside the law Alison is interested in antiques, agriculture, country pursuits and is a season ticket holder at Preston North End.
